PRESSING DEMANDS: Ngwo Clan Takes UNTH Enugu to Court, Demands Accountability for Promised Socio-Economic Packages

Published on

In a groundbreaking move, the Ngwo Clan General Assembly, led by its President Hon. Barr Kenneth Ani, has filed a lawsuit against the management of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu and its Chief Medical Director, Prof. Obinna Onodugo. The case, numbered FHC/EN/CS/115/2023, has been brought before the Federal High Court Enugu.

The assembly, in an originating writ of Summons, has expressed deep concern over the denial of socio-economic benefits to Ngwo Clan, which has been a host community to the health institution in Enugu State for many years. Despite providing a substantial expanse of land to the institution, Ngwo Clan alleges that the hospital has failed to fulfill its obligations, such as providing employment opportunities, educational training in medical fields, medical admissions, and regular healthcare services, as per their prior agreement.

Represented by their counsel, Ozo Alex Amujiogu Esq, Ngwo Clan General Assembly seeks the intervention of the court to compel UNTH Enugu to release all the socio-economic benefits intended for Ngwo Clan, particularly in the areas of admission quotas, employment opportunities, and contractual agreements, among others.

The court is yet to schedule a date for the hearing, which is expected to take place in due course. Stay tuned for further updates on this significant legal battle.
