The Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed its rejection of the local government elections held in the state on Saturday, characterizing it as an “electoral heist.”
According to the PRP’s statement, the election was a premeditated act carried out by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in connivance with each other.
The PRP condemned the manipulation of the electoral process and criticized IPAC for serving the interests of certain individuals instead of promoting democratic practices.
The PRP alleged that the State Chairman of IPAC, the deputy chairman, and another high-ranking member were rewarded with councillorship seats for their involvement in orchestrating the electoral fraud. The PRP claimed that the PDP was declared the winner of all the seats, thereby disenfranchising the people of Bauchi State and undermining democracy.
The party denounced the incident as a grave injustice and admonished all those involved that history would remember their actions and that karma would visit them.
The PRP called on civil society organizations and progressive-minded individuals to condemn the “electoral heist” and protect the democratic system from similar atrocities.
