The political crisis in Rivers State has intensified, with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, dismissing threats by some Ijaw-linked militant groups to disrupt peace if Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.
Wike stated that the heavens will not fall if Fubara is impeached, emphasizing that impeachment is a constitutional process.
The crisis deepened when Fubara was barred from entering the Assembly complex to present the 2025 budget, despite claiming to have notified the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule.
The Ijaw National Congress and the Pan Niger-Delta Elders Forum have condemned the lawmakers’ actions, warning of severe consequences if Fubara is impeached.
