British actor and comedian Russell Brand has broken his silence on the rape and sexual assault allegations against him, firmly maintaining that he has “never been a rapist.”
Brand, 49, was charged by the Metropolitan Police with one count each of rape, indecent assault, and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault, involving four women.
The alleged incidents occurred between 1999 and 2005. In a video statement, Brand thanked his supporters and expressed his intention to contest the allegations in court, stating, “I have never engaged in non-consensual activity — I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.” Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
