Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the news of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s impeachment with great optimism for a better working relationship, according to sources.
Obasa was impeached by 39 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of financial misappropriations and misconduct .
Sanwo-Olu skipped the weekly executive council meeting, delegating his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, to take charge while he monitored the impeachment saga. The governor is yet to make an official comment, but insiders claim he welcomed the news, echoing “good riddance to bad rubbish” along with other executive members .
The impeachment followed a tumultuous relationship between Obasa and Sanwo-Olu, with the former reportedly disrespecting the governor’s office.
President Bola Tinubu had intervened to broker peace during the Yuletide break, but the situation ultimately led to Obasa’s removal.
