Senate Launches Probe into FCT Demolitions, Summons Minister Nyesom Wike to Testify

The Nigerian Senate has initiated an investigation into the recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory, establishing an investigative committee.

The committee will invite FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to explain the reasons behind the demolitions, which have left many residents without homes.

The Senate’s decision comes amid concerns over the illegal demolition of structures in the nation’s capital, with many calling for an immediate halt to further demolitions.

The motion, moved by Senator Ireti Kingibe, expressed concern over the demolitions and called for an immediate stop. The Senate resolved to set up an investigative committee to report back within a specified timeframe.

Additionally, the Senate summoned the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC over the company’s refusal to provide details on the Odukpani-Itu Highway project, despite receiving over N18 billion in public funds.

The Senate has condemned Julius Berger’s refusal to cooperate, citing contempt of the National Assembly and undermining constitutional authority.
