Senator Ngwu Applauds Governor Mbah for Commitment to Fire Safety; Pledges Support for Enugu State Fire Service

The Senator, representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Sen Osita Ngwu, has applauded Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State for his commitment to safety through massive support for Enugu State Fire Service.

Senator Ngwu made this known on Monday when the leadership of Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service, led by her Director, Engr Daniel Okwudiri Oha, paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Enugu.

He stated that Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service has been active in doing their jobs, which is known to all; because, the state Government has been very supportive of their activities.

He posited that, as a key player in the oil and gas upstream, he understands the importance of a well-funded fire service and thus, would add his support to the establishment by providing personal protective equipment, training, and firefighting equipment to establishments across his constituency in his own little way.

According to him, “I am very honored to be in the midst of you because your works are known to everybody.”

“Enugu State Fire Service has been very active in doing their job; which can be attested by all.”
“I want to appreciate our Governor, Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his commitment towards the establishment as well as the state.”

“As a key player in the oil and gas upstream sector, I vividly understand the importance of having a very equipped and dedicated Fire Service system and thus, would support the establishment across my constituency in my own little way.

Earlier, the Director , Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service, Engr Daniel Okwudiri Oha, during his opening remarks, applauded Senator Ngwu for commitment to giving his constituency and Enugu state an effective representation at the red chamber.

He stated that the essence of the visit is to know how to partner with him and get the state’s National Assembly members to support the state fire service as funding shouldn’t be left for the state Government alone.

He stated that the visit is in line with their activities of the year, where they visit our Elected political leaders to solicit partnership and support.

He posited that they came to solicit that he helps them make a legislation recognizing State fire Services in the Nigerian constitution as well as help them provide Personal protective Equipment among other things.

According to Engr Oha, “Distinguished Senator, we are the leadership of Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service.”

“We are here to solicit your partnership in championing initiatives that enhance our emergency response capabilities.’

“This could come in the form of comprehensive reforms, fortifying Enugu fire Service Infrastructures, training programs for firefighters, provision of personal Protective Equipment (PPE) amongst others.”

“We are here to also solicit that you use your good office to push a bill that will call for a recognition of State Fire services in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“We believe that partnership with our National Assembly members would increase our service delivery.”
