A legal showdown occurred at the Federal High Court in Abuja when three Senior Advocates each declared their representation for the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, in a case challenging the conduct of congresses in the Rivers State chapter of the party.
The presiding judge, Justice Peter Lifu, had issued an order earlier preventing interference with the party’s congresses. Subsequently, the court scheduled a hearing for a lawsuit filed by six supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In a somewhat tense moment, three Senior Advocates each announced their representation for the defendants in the case.
Following the judge’s intervention to resolve the situation, it was decided that a short adjournment would be taken for the lawyers to decide who would represent the parties. The court then set a new date for the hearing and directed that all pending motions would be addressed. Justice Lifu also extended the previous order to halt disturbances during the Rivers State congresses until the case is fully heard.
