Afrobeats artist Skales has suggested that extrajudicial punishments, commonly known as “jungle justice,” are a key reason behind Nigeria’s lower crime rates compared to the United Kingdom.
In an interview on Just Vibes, Skales noted that criminals in Nigeria are deterred by the fear of facing severe consequences if caught, stating, “There is less crime in Nigeria because criminals know that if they get caught, they risk facing jungle justice, which could lead to them being burned alive.”
Despite this assertion, the artist clarified that he does not condone or support the practice of jungle justice due to its unlawful nature.
In the same interview, Skales also discussed the essence of afrobeats, describing it as an umbrella term that encompasses various musical styles rather than a strict genre with a defined sound.
