Members of the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) have requested the creation of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to address the various problems facing the region.
During the APC North Central zonal meeting held in Lafia, the leaders emphasized that the region has been severely impacted by numerous crises and hence the importance of establishing the commission.
The stakeholders also highlighted the need for the dredging of River Niger, revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, protection of the rights of APC lawmakers in Plateau, and increased appointments for party loyalists in the region.
They also expressed concerns regarding issues such as inadequate infrastructure, banditry, flooding, and other violent crimes, which greatly hinder agricultural activities.
Ahmed Idris Wase, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of cooperation and the implementation of interventions to address the region’s needs.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue highlighted the challenges posed by the 2022 flood, which caused significant damage to crops, livestock, and displaced hundreds of thousands of residents.
Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State also supported his colleagues’ call for enhanced collaboration in tackling the various issues confronting the region.
