In a significant political development, thousands of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties in Benue State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This mass defection occurred during the launch of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s statewide thank-you tour in Sankera, Kwande, and Ushongo local government areas on Wednesday.
Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support during the recent elections.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to reintegrating internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by armed herdsmen attacks back into their ancestral homes, enabling them to resume farming activities.
The governor acknowledged the devastating impact of attacks on the Sankera axis, a significant yam production hub, and emphasized the need for collective efforts to address security challenges.
Governor Alia encouraged the formation of cooperative societies to facilitate farm inputs and benefits for self-reliance. He dispelled rumors about borrowing from foreign financial institutions for infrastructural projects.
Instead, he announced the award of a contract for the Sankera-Chito-Vaase Road construction to enhance security in the area.
He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of key road networks in Sankera, including the Katsina-Ala Head Bridge-Hausa Quarters/Victory Bible Church Wukari Junction and the Zaki Biam Yam Market-Iwar Ior-Y-Junction roads.
