The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), consisting of the 36 state governors, stated that they are currently assessing their financial flexibility as individual state governments.
They are considering the potential implications of various recommendations aimed at determining an enhanced minimum wage that they can feasibly maintain.
Simultaneously, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) cited reasons for proposing N615,000 as the new national minimum wage, emphasizing their decision not to escalate demands despite compelling factors favoring an increase.
The NLC commended the commitment and patience of workers nationwide and acknowledged the collaborative efforts with the Federal Government, organized private sector, and other stakeholders in formulating an achievable national minimum wage.
While recognizing recent wage adjustments and awards, the governors highlighted that the 37-member tripartite committee responsible for reviewing the National Minimum Wage is still engaged in consultations and has not concluded its deliberations.
They assured continued dedication to the negotiation process, affirming their commitment to attaining improved wages as an inevitable product of the ongoing discussions.
During a virtual meeting held on Wednesday, NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq conveyed the governors’ pledge to address matters concerning the remuneration of state judicial officers and enhance the infrastructure of the courts.
