Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage has expressed her frustration over being frequently compared to other female artists by enthusiastic fans.
According to her, supporters often create a scenario where she is placed in rivalry with every emerging female artist, suggesting that these newcomers are aiming to usurp her position.
In response to this trend, the actress of ‘Water & Garri’ fame shared her willingness to build connections with the new female talents instead.
She emphasized her belief that music should not be seen as a competitive field but rather as a collaborative and supportive industry.
Tiwa Said;
“Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’
“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
