Renowned Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth, has raised concerns about the achievements of Nigerian senators in light of recent controversies surrounding the allegedly padded N3.7 trillion budget for the year 2024.
Reports indicate that Abdul Ningi, the senator representing Bauchi Central, claimed during an interview last week that the whereabouts of N3.7 trillion allocated in the 2024 budget for specific projects could not be accounted for.
In response to this allegation, the Senate, led by its president, Godswill Akpabio, took action during Tuesday’s session by suspending Ningi for a period of three months.
Basketmouth, reacting to this development on his Instagram story, questioned whether the Nigerian Senate has ever prioritized initiatives that truly benefit the general public beyond inflating budgets.
He wrote:
“I have got a question, aside padding budgets, what else do our senators do?
“Like, what have they done in the past 50 years that favored the average Nigerian?”.
