The self-proclaimed ‘King of Afrobeats,’ Davido, is being praised as one of the key players in driving Afrobeats music to global popularity in recent years.

He proudly acknowledged his impact on the African music scene, but also paid tribute to influential pioneers like 2face, D’Banj, and Psquare who paved the way for him and other artists.

In a video posted on Instagram, Davido shared his recent interview with ABC News where he spoke about the universal appeal of Afrobeats.

When anointed as the ‘King of Afrobeats,’ Davido expressed his joy, stating that it was the result of hard work and dedication that started from his early years in the industry.

He also stated that he has earned respect and recognition in the Western music world.

Davido explained that his music style is rooted in African culture, but he also embraces Western vibes in his lifestyle.

As a student, he listened to American rap artists like 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Nelly, and Ludacris, but he made the decision to return to his roots in Nigeria and become part of the booming Afrobeats movement.

He wrote;
