Zamfara Court Blocks Assembly’s Attempt to Dismiss APC Lawmaker.

Published on

The Federal High Court in Gusau has intervened to prevent the Zamfara State House of Assembly from removing Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, the APC representative for Talata Mafara South Constituency.

This news was shared by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau. Kagara initiated the lawsuit (No. FHC/GSCS/10/2025) against the Assembly, its Speaker, and INEC in response to his intended removal from office.

Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim presiding over the case issued an interim injunction that prohibits INEC from conducting a bye-election for Kagara’s seat, ordering that the current situation be preserved until the next court session.

The case is set to reconvene on March 12, 2025. In a related development, the state Assembly has suspended nine lawmakers from various parties, resulting in a reduction of its membership below the two-thirds majority necessary for passing legislation.
